Peters Fourth of July Statement

Statement

Date: July 3, 2013

U.S. Representative Gary Peters today released the following statement to commemorate of the Fourth of July holiday:

"As we celebrate our nation's independence with friends and family this week, it's important to honor the values we hold dear as Michiganders and Americans. Our nation was founded on the principles of liberty, justice, and freedom, and these ideals continue to inspire and drive us forward through tough times and in our economic recovery. Michigan and our country must always remain a place of opportunity, where anyone who is willing to work hard and play by the rules can find a good job, raise a family, and retire with dignity.

"As the son of a World War II veteran and former Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, I also hope you take a moment during the festivities to recognize those who have risked their lives or made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. To our service men and women overseas and the military families here at home, we owe them tremendous thanks."

"I wish you and your family a happy and safe Independence Day."
