U.S. Representative Yvette D. Clarke issued the following statement after the New York City Council voted on Thursday to override Mayor Bloomberg's veto of the Paid Sick Leave Bill.
The override establishes paid sick leave as a right to every worker, and improves the health of millions of workers in New York City, as well as restaurant customers.
"The health of our economy depends on the health of our families," stated Representative Clarke. "No one should be forced to choose between their health and job security. The health and safety of our employees must always remain a priority."
By April 2014, thousands of Representative Clarke's constituents will not have to risk losing their jobs as a result of time off from work to care for themselves or their families.
