U.S. Rep. Allyson Y. Schwartz (PA-13), the number two Democrat on the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement today after she was named by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to serve on a conference committee to complete a budget agreement. Schwartz was appointed along with all of the Democratic members of the Budget Committee.
"It has been 96 days since the Senate passed a budget, and yet House Republican leaders still refuse to sit down with Democrats and negotiate a comprehensive budget agreement for our nation. It's time for Republicans to step up to the plate and stop ignoring their responsibilities. Americans want us to work together to reach common ground on fiscally responsible solutions to reduce the deficit, grow our economy and meet our obligations to our seniors, our families and our future, and I urge Speaker Boehner to appoint conferees."
