U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, D.D.S (AZ-04) today released the following statement in response to the United States Supreme Court ruling in Shelby County, Alabama v. Holder. In that case, the Court held that a key provision of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) requiring federal approval for state election standards cannot be enforced without any current evidence of discrimination by the state at issue.
"Today's Supreme Court decision is an encouraging step toward restoring constitutional order. The Supreme Court recognized that states have the ability to run fair elections and today's political realities do not justify such an assault on federalism."
