Aderholt Assumes New Assignments on Restructured Appropriations Committee

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14, 2005 - Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today announced that the new House Appropriations subcommittee assignments have been made for the upcoming 109th Congress. House Appropriation Committee Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-Calif.) recently announced that the committee would be restructured.
Previously, the committee had been made up of 13 subcommittees which controlled all of the federal government's discretionary spending. The restructuring lowered the number of new subcommittees to ten, giving each new subcommittee greater jurisdiction.
Congressman Aderholt was named to the Transportation subcommittee when he was first elected to congress and will continue to serve on the Transportation, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Subcommittee in the 109th Congress. "This is a vital subcommittee for the Fourth District and the entire State of Alabama, and I'm very excited to be able to continue as a subcommittee member."
Congressman Aderholt was also named Vice Chairman of the revised Military Construction Subcommittee, which has undergone one of the biggest changes of any of the Appropriations subcommittees. The new subcommittee will be the Military Quality of Life Subcommittee and will now include Veterans Affairs funding along with the Defense Health Program Account and the Facilities Sustainment, Restoration and Modernization Program, making it the Appropriations Committee's second largest bill.
Congressman Aderholt's new subcommittee for the upcoming congress will come with his appointment to the Interior and the Environment Subcommittee. In addition to the Environmental Protection Agency and its water grant program, this subcommittee oversees funding programs including the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Park Service, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Council on Historic Preservation.
"I'm looking forward to working with those in the Fourth District and my colleagues in fully using these new opportunities to address the issues important to our area and all of Alabama," added Congressman Aderholt.
