Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) released the following statement slamming White House climate adviser Daniel Schrag's comments to the New York Times. In a recent interview about President Obama's upcoming announcement on climate regulations, Schrag told the newspaper that "a war on coal is exactly what's needed."
"If there was any question that President Obama is waging a war on coal, his climate adviser Daniel Schrag's comments to the New York Times remove any doubt. President Obama has made it his mission to shutdown an affordable, reliable source of energy. The president's actions and his adviser's comments further highlight how out-of-touch he is with reality. President Obama failed to get his environmental agenda through Congress for a reason. Despite common sense and the voice of Congress, it appears he will unilaterally forge ahead with his partisan agenda. By shutting down the production of coal, not only will the president make it impossible for America to become energy independent but he could deliver an unrecoverable blow to coal-rich states like West Virginia."
