Congresswoman Frederica wilson Applauds Supreme Court Decision Upholding the Value of Diversity as a Criteria in College Admissions

This morning, Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (FL-24) applauded the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to preserve the principle that universities may consider racial and ethnic diversity as one factor in making admissions decisions. In Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, the Supreme Court found that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit used the wrong standard in deciding whether the University of Texas's policy met appropriate criteria. The case will be sent back to the lower court. Congresswoman Wilson issued the following statement:

"Diversity is America's greatest strength. In today's ruling, the Supreme Court acknowledged this simple and enduring truth. The Court preserved its longstanding position that campus diversity benefits all Americans by ensuring a broad range of perspectives in the classroom and ensuring that people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to attain professional success."
