Dear Friend,
On Monday, I visited with Holly, Kaitlyn and Saloni, Florida Girls State delegates and eleventh graders from First Academy-Leesburg and Leesburg High School. A few days later, these bright young women assembled with their peers in Tallahassee to learn about local and state government, Florida's judicial system and the electoral process through a 9-day civic simulation. It was a pleasure to answer questions about my role as an elected official and some basic principles of public service.
On Tuesday, I hosted local contractors for a discussion about the challenges facing their businesses. Following the meeting, I received the Central Florida Association of Builders and Contractor's "Champion of the Merit Shop" award for my record of promoting open competition and free-enterprise.
On Saturday, I addressed the graduates of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Orlando. I previously visited the college and met with many of the students of the graduating class. It was a pleasure to stand with the faculty, family, friends and others who invested in the lives of these well trained professionals. All had gathered for the commencement exercise to celebrate the graduates' successful earning of a diploma. Eighty percent already have employment opportunities.
This week, I also held a listening session at the Summit Greens residential community in Clermont continuing the series of informal, open neighborhood discussions. These public forums are a way to explore community generated solutions to the unique challenges we face. I look forward to continuing these conversations in the weeks and months ahead. Check out photos from my past meetings with Central Floridians by following me on Twitter or looking me up on Facebook.
