Joyce Urges Colleagues to Stop Student Loan Rate Increase

Rep. Dave Joyce (OH-14) released the following statement urging his colleagues to work together to prevent student loan rates from doubling on July 1st:

"Next year, all three of my kids will be in college and I'm a firm believer that every Ohio student should have the chance to attend college without fear of perpetual debt. The House voted to prevent student loan rates from doubling and I urge my colleagues to work together to stop the looming rate hike that could hurt middle class families and students. I'm sitting at the table ready to find a solution so let's get to work."

Rep. Joyce voted for The Smarter Solutions for Students Act, H.R. 1911, which would prevent student loan rates from doubling by enacting a common-sense, long-term fix to student loans. He also signed a bipartisan letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), urging the Senate to work with the House to prevent a student loan rate hike. Subsidized Stafford Loans are currently set to double from 3.4% to 6.8% on July 1st, 2013.
