Van Hollen Statement on 50th Anniversary of the Equal Pay Act

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement marking the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy signing the Equal Pay Act into law:

"Fifty years after President Kennedy signed this historic bill into law, a significant pay gap still exists between men and women that we must address. Today, women on average in Maryland make 86 cents for every dollar earned by men, and women nationwide make only 77 cents. The Paycheck Fairness Act would update and strengthen the Equal Pay Act, and we must pass it without delay. We will not rest until women are truly given equal pay for equal work."
