Cassidy Calls For FEMA To Visit Those Facing Flood Insurance Hikes

Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. wrote a letter to the head of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration, calling for him to visit Louisiana and learn about the flood insurance premium hikes FEMA is proposing. The Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration is part of FEMA.

"Louisianans are facing devastating flood insurance rate hikes," said Cassidy. "They undermine our ability to provide the nation with affordable oil, sturdy ports and well-paying jobs. They are also irrational, with well-protected homes facing premium hikes up to 6,071%.

"FEMA needs to understand the threats that Louisiana and America face and take corrective action. The first step must be for FEMA to visit Louisiana and learn first-hand what's occurring, so they can effectively address this crisis."

The letter is addressed to Mr. David Miller, the director of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration and associate administrator for FEMA. It is also signed by Reps. Rodney Alexander, Charles Boustany and Steve Scalise. A copy of the letter is attached to this e-mail.
