The Duckworth Diary - May 10th, 2013

Statement

Date: May 10, 2013

Dear Neighbors,

The wonderful artwork our high students have submitted for the Congressional Art Competition is currently on display at the Arlington Green Executive Building in Arlington Heights. Stop by to see the exhibit or attend our reception at 2 pm on Saturday, May 18 when I'll announce the winners!

Wednesday was National Library Legislative Day. Staff from the Illinois Library Association, the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin, the Schaumburg Township District Library, and the Itasca Community Library visited my DC office this week to talk about supporting our local libraries.

Representatives from Terri Lynn, a food manufacturer in Elgin, stopped by to talk about the Small Business Paperwork Relief Act that I've introduced and other measures to support our small businesses. I also spoke to the National Association of Manufacturers this week about the Manufacturing Reinvestment Account Act, which I recently introduced. This bipartisan bill will help 8th District manufacturers invest in facilities, equipment and job training.

I met Thursday with several Illinois Fire Chiefs to talk about improving our fire and emergency preparedness. I also spoke with the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction about eliminating waste in defense contracts.

Finally, ABC Chicago aired a great story about last week's round table discussion on student loans at the College of DuPage. Watch the story. I was also on CBS Chicago's At Issue to talk about student loans, immigration, Elgin O'Hare expansion and more. Listen to the interview.

Best,

Congresswoman Duckworth
