Dear Neighbors of the 8th District,
This week, my top priority was the severe flooding in our community. I visited a Red Cross shelter in Wheeling, met with local officials in Des Plaines and Addison to discuss their needs, and talked with affected residents in Lombard to assess the damage. Now, I'm working closely with other local and federal officials to ensure that 8th District residents have the resources they need to recover from the floods and repair the damage.
For more flood-related updates or if you need any assistance, please visit the flood resources page on website or call my office at 847-413-1959.
During a House Oversight and Government Reform committee hearing this week, I asked about ways we can increase lending to small businesses and ensure that entrepreneurs have access to the capital they need to grow their companies.
I had a few meetings this week I want to share with you. First, I met with the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois to discuss improvements to 8th district transportation and infrastructure. I also talked about infrastructure improvements with members of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 265 and the Pipefitters Local 597 as part of a discussion about creating construction jobs in our district. Later this week, I met with the Illinois Hotel & Lodging Association to talk about the importance of passing comprehensive immigration reform. We also discussed ways to increase tourism to Illinois, which would bring more revenue and jobs to our district.
Finally, this Thursday was the Girl Scouts' Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. As a girl scout myself, it was great to have a girl scout shadow me for the morning. I hope many of you had the opportunity this week to share your workplace with our next generation of leaders as well!
Best,
Congresswoman Duckworth
