Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) released the following statement after joining her colleagues on both sides of the aisle in signing a pledge to protect American children from human trafficking. The "Our Daughters are Not for Sale" proclamation emphasizes the lawmakers' commitment to protecting innocent lives.
"According to the Department of Justice, at least 200,000 American children are at risk for trafficking into the sex industry. And sadly, the majority of these girls are between the young ages of 12 and 14 years old. With so many girls at risk of physical and emotional abuse, something must be done. As a mother of a daughter, my heart goes out to the families who are living this horrible nightmare firsthand. That is why I joined my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in signing a pledge to emphasize my commitment to protecting innocent lives."
