Congresswoman Capito Votes to Provide Critical Funding for Service Members and Veterans

Statement

Date: June 4, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) released the following statement after voting for the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which passed the House. This legislation provides critical funding to support the military and their families, and to provide for the benefits and medical care for our nation's veterans.

"With government agencies across the board facing budget cuts, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act prioritizes funding to protect critical programs affecting our service members and veterans. This legislation provides funding for traumatic brain injury treatment, suicide prevention, mental health care, and rural health care access for millions of patients. Additionally, it deals with the Veterans Affairs' biggest problems, including a coordinated Department of Defense-Veterans Affairs electronic health record system and the disability claims processing backlog.

"By increasing congressional oversight of taxpayer dollars, this legislation also ensures that our military men and women get the care they have earned and deserve. I remain committed to our nation's service members and veterans, and this legislation takes positive steps forward for the individuals who have selflessly served our country."
