Van Hollen Introduces Resolution Calling on Boehner to Appoint Budget Conferees

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, introduced a resolution urging Speaker Boehner to immediately appoint budget conferees.

This morning, Majority Leader Reid asked for unanimous consent in the Senate to appoint conferees, and Senate Republicans objected. The GOP is the only party preventing the Congress from moving the budget process forward.

"Congressional Republicans were quick to criticize the Senate and the President for standing in the way of a timely budget process -- but they are now the only ones standing in the way. Despite the fact that Congress has missed its legal deadline of passing a final budget, the GOP won't even take the first step and appoint budget conferees," said Congressman Van Hollen. "And this comes from the party that insisted that Members of Congress not get paid unless each chamber passed a budget -- it's the height of hypocrisy. There is no time for delay. We must move forward immediately with a budget conference committee to work out our differences, boost job growth, and get our fiscal house in order."
