Cotton Applauds Committee Passage of Iran Sanctions Bill

Statement

Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) made the following statement after the House Foreign Affairs Committee passed H.R. 850, the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act with four of his amendments:

"The legislation passed out of the House Foreign Affairs Committee today could be our last, best chance at stopping Iran's nuclear weapons program short of military action. The situation in Iran is dire and steps must be taken immediately to stop their illicit activities. I hope the sanctions in this bill will force Iran's corrupt leaders to abandon their drive for nuclear weapons.

"During the committee's consideration of the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act, I offered four amendments that will shorten compliance timelines and improve reporting about Iran's corrupt leaders. These amendments strengthen the legislation by accelerating and expanding its impact.

"I am grateful to Chairman Royce and the Foreign Affairs Committee for their work on this bi-partisan bill. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to pass this urgent legislation through the House and Senate and to send it promptly to the President's desk."
