Cotton Responds to FAA Decision to Keep Air-Traffic Control Towers Open

Congressman Tom Cotton (R-Dardanelle) made the following statement in response to Friday's announcement by the FAA that the 149 contract air-traffic control towers originally slated for closure in June will remain open through the end of the fiscal year:

"I was pleased with the FAA's announcement that all contract air-traffic control towers will remain fully funded through the end of fiscal year 2013 and that employee furloughs will end. These control towers are vital to our aviation infrastructure and are an important component in the success of local economies. Since these tower closures were announced in early March, I have worked alongside my colleagues to prevent the towers and the hardworking Americans who staff them from falling victim to the Obama Administration's attempts to make the sequester as painful as possible. The FAA's ability to prioritize funding and maintain tower operations illustrates the need for other government agencies to reexamine their spending habits. I look forward to working with my colleagues to find a permanent solution for the contract air-traffic control tower funding."
