Cornyn Pushes to Ban All Iranian Government Exports

U.S. Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Mark Kirk (R-IL) introduced a bill to impose a total export embargo on the government of Iran as the rogue nation continues to defy the United Nations Security Council by pursuing a nuclear weapons capability, sponsoring terrorism, violating the human rights of its own people, and aiding North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

"The time for maximum pressure on the Iranian regime is now, before the only option left on the table is the military one. Put simply, countries and companies around the world will be forced to choose -- stop doing business with the government of Iran or stop doing business in the United States of America."

The Iran Export Embargo Act would expand existing U.S. sanctions' law by prohibiting the purchase or transfer of goods and services from any entity owned or controlled by the Government of Iran and banning all transactions on behalf of such entities for the purpose of exports from Iran. The bill would block all assets of entities deemed to be Government of Iran and also prohibit any insurance or reinsurance for such entities.

The bill has garnered the support of 17 other U.S. Senators, including: Ted Cruz (R-TX), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Pat Roberts (R-KS), Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), James Risch (R-ID), Dan Coats (R-IN), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Deb Fischer (R-NE), John Boozman (R-AR), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Johnny Isakson (R-GA), John Hoeven (R-ND), Marco Rubio (R-FL), David Vitter (R-LA), Rob Portman (R-OH) and Mike Lee (R-UT).
