Quigley Climate Tour Showcases Local Environmental Efforts

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Quigley (IL-05) continues his two-day Chicago Climate Tour, visiting critical environmental sites around the region to hear from experts on the local impact of climate change and work being done to address the issue.

"The Climate Tour highlights common-sense conservation efforts that confront the effects of climate change head-on, so that future generations can enjoy the same plant and animal life we have today," said Rep. Quigley. "Throughout the tour, the outstanding efforts of staff, researchers and community volunteers serve as an important reminder that everyday citizens can become environmental heroes. Chicago must remain a national sustainability leader when it comes to protecting our natural resources, and I am thankful for the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium for helping our area maintain high environmental standards."

During the first day of the Chicago Climate Tour, Rep. Quigley visited plant genetic testing labs at the Chicago Botanic Garden, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County's Bunker Hill restoration site, the Nature Boardwalk at the Lincoln Park Zoo and a site in Pilsen where neighbors used the Field Museum's Chicago Community Climate Action Toolkit to create a community garden.

The Chicago Climate Tour continues this morning at the Field Museum to learn how exhibits are used to share important environmental education messages. The Tour will conclude with a roundtable discussion at the Shedd Aquarium, where environmental experts from across disciplines will share ideas on working together to address climate change.
