Collins at Benghazi Hearing, "Not About Our Politics, This is About Protecting Our People"

Statement

Representative Doug Collins (R-GA) released the statement below following today's Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on the September 11, 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya:

"Today's hearing gave us few answers and left a multitude of questions in regards to the incident in Benghazi," said Collins. "But the bottom line is this -- how do we, as a nation, ensure those serving our interests overseas are protected in the future so another travesty like this one does not happen again? If the Obama Administration refuses to take responsibility for this tragedy, Congress must take the necessary steps to give the American people the answers they deserve. I appreciate Chairman Issa bringing this important issue before our Committee, and I look forward to continued discussion to find real answers and create practical solutions to assure our foreign service officers that their government will always have their back."

"I take great offense to the way the Obama Administration and liberal media outlets have insinuated that today's hearing and relevant questions are politically motivated. Mr. President, this is not about the political games and gimmicks you have grown so fond of during your time on Pennsylvania Avenue. This is about four American lives that were lost last September due to your failed leadership, and justice will be served -- one way or the other -- for their brave service and commitment to the United States of America."
