Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement on today's Food Action and Research Center (FRAC) poll showing an overwhelming majority of the country supports keeping the food stamp program strong.
"This poll is further proof that the overwhelming majority of Americans do not support balancing the budget on the backs of the poor and most vulnerable. With debate over the Farm Bill about to begin again, I hope my colleagues heed the message our constituents are trying to deliver. We should be strengthening programs that help make sure kids across America have enough food, not cutting them.
"Further cutting the food stamp program is an unconscionable abdication of our responsibility to care for the neediest among us. And today's poll is proof that the vast majority of Americans agree. Instead of making it more difficult for parents to feed their families we should be taking a look at subsidies to millionaires and reforming our excessive crop insurance system."
