Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Gwen Moore (WI-4) released the following statement celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month.

"Jewish American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate Jewish American culture, history and the varied ways this community has enhanced our way of life.

"The Jewish American story is one of strength and perseverance. They have risen above a past stained with hardship to a present characterized by opportunity. I am proud to celebrate Jewish Americans and the positive impact they have had on our nation, Wisconsin and Milwaukee.

"Golda Meir, a Milwaukee resident, was the fourth prime minister of Israel. She and many other Jewish Americans have contributed to the economic, social and political life of our nation.

"This month and beyond, I encourage all people to learn more about Jewish American heritage."

Jewish American Heritage Month has been officially recognized since 2006 and is celebrated each year during the month of May.
