Rep. Juan Vargas Condemns Syria's Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction

Today, Rep. Juan Vargas (CA-51), Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, condemned Syria's use of chemical weapons against its own people. "The Administration's confirmation that Syrian President Assad used weapons of mass destruction against the Syrian people is conclusive proof that Syria is a threat to the region and civil society as a whole," stated Rep. Vargas.

"Syria has crossed a red line, from which it cannot return. Now that we have evidence of Syria's use of chemical weapons, we must act swiftly and decisively," said Vargas. "President Assad's horrific actions require us, at a minimum, to strictly enforce a no fly zone over Syria." "Furthermore," continued Congressman Vargas, "it is essential that we supply weapons to vetted members of the opposition, so they are able to protect themselves and fight for their freedom."

"President Assad has committed an atrocious violation of human rights, further destabilized the region and put our allies at risk."
