TURNER COMMENTS ON PRESIDENT'S BUDGET PROPOSAL
February 7, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Michael R. Turner (R-Centerville) issued the following statement on the budget proposal released earlier today by the president.

"The administration is to be congratulated for its continued commitment to Brownfields redevelopment. However, the President's budget proposal to consolidate and reduce 18 urban programs, such as Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), into one is concerning. I am uneasy with efforts to diminish HUD and will be reviewing efforts to move to those programs to the Department of Commerce very critically. Therefore, I have reached out to the administration and look forward to working with it to ensure that the federal government maintains its longstanding commitment to economic development in our nation's cities. I am hopeful that when the process concludes we will produce a common sense budget that promotes economic growth and more effective solutions to the challenges facing our cities."
