Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today after the Senate's working group introduced its bipartisan proposal for comprehensive immigration reform:
"The bill introduced early this morning is an important step forward in the quest for comprehensive immigration reform. Creating a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million aspiring citizens already living and working in Connecticut and across the United States is critical and will make us a stronger country.
"I am also pleased the bill takes steps to further secure our borders, an important part of any comprehensive agreement. And it speeds up the road to citizenship for the DREAMers, students who were brought to this country as children and worked hard to succeed.
"Any legislation must build on our core American values of equality, opportunity and responsibility. We are one step closer to acting on those values, but it is just one step. Congress must act swiftly on comprehensive legislation that makes those core tenants reality."
