Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today on the United States Postal Service (USPS)'s decision to cease their plan to end Saturday delivery.
"Today's announcement is good news for the thousands of Connecticut postal workers who have received a temporary reprieve. These dedicated professionals help keep our country running in every type of situation imaginable, from the anthrax attacks to ever-present attacks on federal employees. But the decision is only temporary and we must keep fighting to ensure that it becomes permanent. Congress needs to pass comprehensive postal reform to ensure that USPS can stay financially solvent for many years to come. I urge my colleagues to preserve six day delivery permanently so that this great American institution can continue to survive and thrive."
