Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today applauding the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women's inclusion in an ongoing study into pay equity in Connecticut. In January Governor Dannel Malloy directed state officials to conduct the study into what factors contribute to the gender-based wage gap and how to address it.
"The Permanent Commission on the Status of Women has a long history of calling attention to pay equity and giving its unbiased view on how we can change a world where women make just 77 cents for every dollar earned by their male colleagues. Today's recognition of Equal Pay Day is a reminder of the persistent inequities that women face in the workforce. The wage gap does not just harm women; it threatens their families' financial stability. With women bringing home an increasingly bigger share of family income, smaller paychecks hurt their spouses and children, as well as the entire economy. I look forward to seeing the results of Connecticut's efforts."
