Polis Lauds Senate Immigration Bill, Bipartisan Gang of Eight

Statement

Date: April 17, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) issued the following statement today in response to the bipartisan Gang of Eight introducing an immigration reform bill in the Senate.

" I am extremely pleased to see an immigration reform bill coming out of the Gang of Eight negotiations in the Senate that reflects the importance of keeping families together -- both in terms of reuniting families who have been separated through our broken immigration system as well as those who have been living in fear of deportation. I commend the U.S. Senators for introducing this legislation and for creating a pathway to citizenship for the millions of undocumented immigrants who are part of our communities and acknowledging the importance of making naturalization affordable and attainable. I look forward to participating in a meaningful debate over the next few weeks to address my remaining concerns. We in Congress cannot continue to kick the can down the road on immigration reform -- we must seize this opportunity to pass a bipartisan immigration reform package that reflects our values as Americans."
