Daines: Obama Budget Fails to Provide Lasting Solutions

Statement

President Barack Obama today unveiled his long-delayed FY 2014 budget proposal, which calls for $3.77 trillion in spending and adds $8.2 trillion in new debt, while raising taxes on Americans by $1.1 trillion.

Congressman Steve Daines today offered the following statement in response to the President's proposal:

"President Obama's budget never balances. It spends too much, taxes too much, and fails to seriously address the $16.8 trillion in debt with which Washington has burdened future generations. The American people deserve lasting solutions that help grow our economy and put our country back on track--not more budget gimmicks. That's why I will continue fighting for budgets that balance and common sense solutions that truly address challenges facing our nation.

"The President said today that "nothing shrinks deficits faster than a growing economy.' I agree--which is why I support the budget passed by the House, which puts our country on a path to economic growth and long-term fiscal stability. Unfortunately, the President's budget fails to achieve these goals and instead only adds to the deficit that continues to undermine the economic certainty that hardworking Americans need and deserve.

"President Obama's budget fails to address the true driver of our debt: Washington's addiction to reckless spending. Montana families and small businesses understand that you can't spend more than you take in and you need to balance your budget. These are common sense principles that Montanans live by every day. It's time for Washington to do the same."
