Ayotte Votes Against Budget That Taxes, Spends Too Much

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the statement below regarding her vote against the Democrats' Fiscal Year 2014 budget resolution. The package was approved 50 to 49 in a final vote at 4:38 this morning, after nearly 20 hours of voting:

"While I was pleased that Senate Democrats finally brought a budget to the floor, I was disappointed that it included $1 trillion in tax increases, failed to balance the budget, and did nothing to preserve our entitlement programs.

"With nearly $17 trillion in debt, Washington needs to get serious about the looming fiscal crisis we face. I will continue to push for a plan that reduces spending, strengthens our retirement programs for future generations, and reforms our broken tax code to make it fairer and better for economic growth."
