Daines: We Need Lasting Solution to Nation's Fiscal Crisis

Statement

Congressman Steve Daines this morning joined House leadership to call for lasting, common sense solutions that address the nation's fiscal crisis and work to put the nation back on solid fiscal ground.

As the sole freshman member of Congress participating in today's press conference with Speaker of the House John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Republican Conference Vice Chair Lynn Jenkins, Daines called for responsible solutions to the nation's fiscal crisis that reflected the common sense principles found in Montana.

"I spent 28 years in the private sector -- I'm an engineer by degree," Daines stated. "As engineers, we're taught how to solve problems. Over the last 28 years, I've been creating jobs and understand why you need to balance a budget--understanding in businesses and family budgets, you have to find ways to do more with less."

"I ran for Congress not because I was having a midlife crisis--I left the private sector because I saw a looming financial crisis that was coming to this country," Daines continued. "I represent one million Montanans, and I can tell you what--we can take a page from the playbook from the state of Montana. In Montana, we require a balanced budget."

"We have a responsibility to the American people," Daines added. "We have a responsibility to our kids to ensure that we responsibly manage our spending and that we reform our government. This is not just to get our CR through here for the next six months, but to put us back on a path for the next five, ten, twenty years that will have a lasting solution, lasting economic growth, and is something we can leave for our kids that is better than what we got from our parents."
