Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement after President Obama announced that he has nominated Maryland resident and Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice Tom Perez to be the next Secretary of the Department of Labor:

"Having had the good fortune to work with Tom Perez over the years, I am confident that he will be an outstanding Secretary of Labor. Tom's tireless work as a dedicated public servant -- on behalf of Marylanders and all Americans -- has demonstrated that he is committed to addressing the challenges that confront hard-working men and women and the businesses that employ them. I hope that my colleagues in the Senate quickly confirm his nomination so that he and the Administration can continue their efforts to put Americans back to work and boost economic growth."
