Congressman Aderholt Statement on the State of the Union

Washington, February 2, 2005, -- Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today made the following statement in reaction to tonight's State of the Union Address:

"I'm pleased to see President Bush discuss solutions to some of our nation's most pressing problems. I look forward to working with those in the Fourth Congressional District, President Bush, the Senate and my House colleagues to strengthen our growing economy, domestic security and address other issues that lead to a rewarding and fulfilling life for those in Alabama.

"I agree that ensuring Social Security's stability is an essential part of our nation's commitment to our senior citizens and future generations who will someday rely on this important program. I am looking forward to hearing about the details of the president's plan on Social Security. Furthermore, I look forward to hearing from Alabamians and listening to their thoughts on this important issue.

"President Bush highlighted the successful elections in Iraq - and I'm pleased he did. This is just another example of America fulfilling its obligation to spread democracy to all parts of the world and to allow every individual the opportunity to embrace freedom. The remarkable turn out rate - as high as 70 percent - demonstrates that the brave men and women of Iraq have personal commitments to their country's future."
