SANDERS STATEMENT ON NOMINATION OF NEBRASKA GOVERNOR TO BE NEXT USDA SECRETARY
(WASHINGTON, DC) --- Congressman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) issued the following statement Thursday regarding President Bush's nomination of Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns to succeed Ann Veneman as the next Secretary of Agriculture.
"Family farmers all over this country are in deep trouble and they need help now. That means reversing the current pro-agribusiness policies at USDA that are making it hard for small farmers to stay in business. If Gov. Johanns is serious about wanting to protect family based agriculture in America, I look forward to working with him to fulfill the promise the President made during the campaign, and quickly reauthorize the MILC program which has been so important to Vermont's dairy farmers."
