Congressman Gary Peters' Statement on his Vote Against Debt Ceiling Bill

Today U.S. Rep. Gary Peters voted against the GOP's three-month debt ceiling increase because all it does is kick the can down the road rather than addressing the actual problem of America's debt. Following the vote, Peters issued the following statement:

"Congress should stop kicking the can down the road to avoid working on a real solution to our nation's debt problem," said Congressman Gary Peters. "For businesses to continue leading our economic recovery, they need certainty that Washington will continue to pay its bills. By passing only a short-term patch, Congress has instead added more uncertainty to our economy. We face significant challenges that require sensible, balanced solutions that can't be solved by gimmicks. It's time for Washington to work together to pass long term solutions to our nation's fiscal problem, stop playing games and ensure our government can meet its obligations."
