Today Congressman Gary Peters joined Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, Gov. Snyder, Mayor Bing, members of the Michigan Congressional delegation and leaders of the M1 Coalition to announce a $25 million TIGER grant to match $100 million in private funding to build the M1 rail line. In addition to the M1 funding, $6.5 million in Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funding was announced to help develop a bus rapid transit (BRT) network.

"By securing over $30 million federal dollars for the M1 project and a bus rapid transit system, we are making an investment to build a brighter future for our region," said U.S. Rep. Gary Peters. "Regional transit means new economic development opportunities in our communities, new jobs for our workers and a new hope for a stronger Greater Detroit region."
