Press Release

Date: Jan. 3, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Gary Peters was officially sworn in as the representative of Michigan's new 14th Congressional District in the 113th Congress. Crossing 8 Mile, this new Greater Detroit Congressional District is the first in history to include the seats of both Oakland and Wayne Counties. By bringing so many diverse communities into one district, Congressman Peters views this new responsibility as a real opportunity to unite the Greater Detroit region by addressing the challenges all of us face.

"I'm honored and humbled to serve the families of the Greater Detroit region in this new 14th Congressional District and I'm committed to fighting for the things that unite us," said Congressman Gary Peters. "I know that by working together, we'll make the City of Detroit and the entire Greater Detroit region a better place to live, work and raise a family. Together we can build a stronger Greater Detroit by investing in good schools and transit systems, making our communities safer and by bringing more jobs and growth to our region. I am deeply appreciative to the families that I represent for entrusting me with this profound responsibility. There's a lot of work to do in 2013, but together, I know we'll succeed."

Michigan's 14th District includes half of the City of Detroit as well as Farmington Hills, the Grosse Pointes, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Keego Harbor, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Orchard Lake, Pontiac, Royal Oak Township, Southfield, Sylvan Lake and West Bloomfield.
