Young Sworn in to 113th Congress

In a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, Congressman Todd Young was sworn in for his second term as the United States Representative for Indiana's 9th District.

"I learned more than I ever expected in my first term, mostly by spending the majority of my time back in Indiana listening to the concerns of our neighbors," said Young. "I'm incredibly honored to represent this part of the state again, and intend to continue spending the majority of my time back home instead of in Washington. The 112th Congress left a lot of work unfinished, and I intend to continue fighting to seriously address our nation's reckless spending precisely because it's what Hoosiers sent me here to do."

The new Congress also brings a new committee assignment for Young, who is now a member of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. tax code, foreign trade relations, and social insurance programs like Medicare and Social Security, among other things. Because of the broad scope of work performed by that committee, members of Ways & Means are not allowed to serve on other committees, so Young is no longer on the Budget or Armed Services Committees.

Additionally, the decennial census in 2010 and redistricting in 2011 gives new boundaries to the 9th District beginning with the 113th Congress. In addition to Brown, Clark, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Orange, Washington Counties, and parts of Crawford and Scott Counties remain in the 9th District, along with Johnson and Lawrence Counties, most of Morgan County, and all of Monroe County (which was formally split between the 4th and 9th Districts). Dubois, Perry, Spencer and part of Crawford County now sit in the 8th District, represented by Larry Bucshon. Dearborn, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland Counties, all of Bartholomew and part of Scott County were moved to the 6th District, now served by Luke Messer.
