McCollum Announces $36.6 Million in Federal Funding for Warren Burger Federal Courthouse

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Betty McCollum (MN-04) announced $36.6 million for security upgrades and modernization at the Warren E. Burger Federal Building and Courthouse in St. Paul. The funding was included in the Transportation/Treasury section of the omnibus funding legislation for Fiscal Year 2005 which passed last Saturday by the House and Senate. The bill also included more than $14 million for other federal projects in the Fourth Congressional District.

"The terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 and the bombing in Oklahoma City highlighted the vulnerabilities of the security challenges at the Burger Federal Building and Courthouse, many of which require immediate attention. This additional funding will enhance the safety of court employees and the general public by allowing for the completion of much-needed security upgrades and modernization at the building," said McCollum.

Over the years the building has suffered from a number of structural damages, many reaching a critical level. The funding will help immediately address these safety concerns, and allow the building to accommodate the needs of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
