Local Cancer Treatment Center Will Benefit Patients

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin and Senator Herb Kohl today secured $400,000 in federal funds to assist St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo establish a sophisticated cancer center and provide radiation treatment services locally to its cancer patients. The funding is included in the fiscal year 2005 omnibus budget, which Congress approved today. Baldwin fought for the funding in the House of Representatives, as did Kohl in the Senate.

"Health care is a primary concern of those I represent," said Baldwin. "Patients in rural areas need and deserve the same quality of care as those in urban areas. Providing radiation treatment in Baraboo will greatly benefit cancer patients and their families in difficult times. I'm delighted our request for funds for this worthy project was approved."

"Patients in the St. Clare area shouldn't be forced to drive hundreds of miles each week to get the cancer treatment they need. This equipment and treatment center will be a tremendous benefit to the community. I thank Congresswoman Baldwin for her hard work on this, and I'm pleased we could secure this funding," Kohl said.
