Jobs and industry will come to North Carolina if we begin to make the business environment in the state competitive. Government should help business succeed not choose who will succeed. Over regulation and over taxation, especially having the highest gas and incomes taxes in the southeast, will not attract new business to move here. There is nothing to stop business and industry from locating just over the South Carolina state line and still benefit from the North Carolina market. Regulation must pass a cost/benefit analysis to become enforceable, rules must make sense and not be used by the state to bully its citizens and taxes must be reduced, through a reduction in spending, to give us a competitive advantage. Additionally our community colleges can play a significant role in training a workforce that can meet the needs of the 21st century economy.
