Issue Position

I call for real efforts to create good-paying and sustainable jobs for the hard working people of Minnesota. I was proud to join Senate Democrats and Governor Dayton in advocating for responsible and real jobs bills. It paste time to set aside extreme, partisan campaign issues. In 2011 and 2012 the Legislature had the opportunity to invest in our states infrastructure and provide new jobs for over 21,700 Minnesotans. The Legislature failed to act. Minnesota must have good paying jobs that you can raise a family on and also increase consumer spending in our communities. The Jobs Now Tax Credit should have been passed and was projected to create 14,000 jobs by giving Minnesota businesses a tax incentive to create new, good-paying jobs in our communities. These two initiatives alone would have made Minnesota a leader again in providing good-paying job opportunities and infuse our communities with new private consumer spending.

The Senate GOP renamed their omnibus tax bill, "The Omnibus Jobs Bill". Yet, another example of using language to misrepresent intentions. It is a tactic used in the Constitutional Amendment proposals. Changing the title of the Omnibus Tax Bill does not change the fact that the Republican's tax agenda was to have more to do with corporate giveaways than growing actual jobs in Minnesota. Their plans have no specific accounting of where the hundreds of millions of dollars are going to come from. The Republican majority's recent history has been to take money from the local government aid budget, and leaving middle-class families with more property tax hikes. We need new leadership and commitment to actual specific job creation.
