Karen spends a lot of time with small business owners, so she knows they need relief from the crushing cost of health insurance to thrive and begin hiring again.
She believes cutting waste and duplication of efforts is a good start. A bill Karen sponsored that will require providers and insurance companies to use the same administrative codes was signed into law in 2008. This initiative is expected to save $1 billion over the next decade.
Another law Karen recently helped to pass will provide up to 10 percent in immediate premium relief for our small businesses. It also contains a number of provisions that will help stabilize health care costs for small businesses and lay the foundation for further reform.
This law will bring immediate results, but it is not a permanent fix. Karen is committed to working on long-term payment reform and cost-control measures and will make this a priority next session.
