Houses Passes Pork Bill, Leaves Taxpayers Holding Bag

WASHINGTON, DC - In the final act of the lame duck 108th Congress, U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) opposed a massive spending proposal to make up for the House's failure to pass all of the 13 funding bills this year. She released the following statement:

"In a display of financial recklessness we seem to repeat every year, the Republican House passed a pork-laden $388 billion spending plan in the middle of the night. This plan was so rushed that Members of Congress were not even given time to read the proposal before we voted on it. So, no one really knows what exactly is in this plan. These are exactly the kind of wastrel ways that crippled our budget in the early 1990s and, just like then, it is the taxpayers of the United States who are left holding the bag."
