Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart Commends 'No Confidence' Vote Against Annan

WASHINGTON-Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) today lauded United Nations employees for their unprecedented vote of no confidence in Secretary-General Kofi Annan after he pardoned the U.N. top oversight official despite a series of allegations.

"Kofi Annan's term as Secretary-General has seen an incredible amount of corruption and cronyism," Diaz-Balart said. "His guilt in the Oil-for-Food scandal, his cover-up of corruption by U.N. officials, his efforts to keep Saddam Hussein in power, and his ineffectiveness with situations like genocide in Sudan have only continued to keep the United Nations on the path to irrelevance.

"Because of Annan's treachery, millions have suffered," Diaz-Balart continued. "History will mark Annan as one of the most crooked individuals ever."
