Schumer Secures $1 Million for New York Hall of Science

SCHUMER SECURES $1 MILLION FOR NEW YORK HALL OF SCIENCE

Funding Part of the FY 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill

Queens science education center brings innovative exhibitions, services to schools, and state-of-the-art facilities to keep New Yorkers on the forefront of the 21st Century

Funds will aid expansion project, bolster training programs for teachers, and support new exhibits and educational programs

US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced Congress has passed $1 million in federal funding for the New York Hall of Science in Queens. The funding was included in the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations section of the Fiscal Year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill. The bill now heads to the President for his signature.

The funds will help to bolster vital programs, exhibits, and educational resources and enhance the Hall's ability to engage with other collaborative programs with science programs across the country and around the world. Additionally, funding will help to enable the Hall of Science to move ahead with its expansion project which includes recruiting and training science teachers.

"As our world continues to change for both better and worse, it's becoming more clear with each day that science and a firm grasp of cutting edge principles will be the key to our children's prosperity," Schumer said. "The very technology that has caused so much good, by helping us cure diseases and attain wonderful advances in so many fields, has a dark underbelly. We know now that it can be used for evil purposes, too. So it's vitally important that we invest in science education, and that's why I'm so happy we're able to get these funds for the New York Hall of Science, one of the many jewels of Queens and all of New York."
