SCHUMER SECURES $100,000 FOR AMERICAN-ITALIAN CANCER FOUNDATION

Funding included in the FY05 Omnibus Appropriations bill

Funds will go to upgrade mobile breast cancer screening van

US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced that he included $100,000 for the American-Italian Cancer Foundation to upgrade their mobile breast cancer screening van in the 2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill which passed this weekend. The funding was included in the Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations portion of the bill. The bill is now heading to the President for his signature.

"Breast cancer is a tragedy for so many women and their families in New York because the changes of survival are so much higher the earlier the disease is detected," Schumer said. "Despite decades of work, there are still some women who don't go to their doctors often enough for mammograms, so the American-Italian Cancer Foundation came up with a simple but brilliant solution - to bring the doctrors and the doctors office to them instead."
