SCHUMER SECURES $50,000 FOR KEN'S KIDS, INC.

Funding Part of the FY 2005 Omnibus Appropriations Bill

US Senator Charles E. Schumer today announced Congress will pass $50,000 in federal funding for Ken's Kids Inc. The funding was included in the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations portion of the Fiscal Year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill. The bill now heads to the President for his signature.

The funding will be used for three part-time vocational trainers to screen, train and place young adults with developmental disabilities in jobs at Home Depots throughout New York City. Currently there are eight fully screened candidates on a waiting list and a network of 39 Home Depot stores to fill n the Metro-Region.

"When I first heard about Ken's Kids, I was struck by the success of this program. These kids are provided with great training and employment which really opens some doors for them," Schumer said.
