SCHUMER SECURES $7 MILLION FOR ROUTE 12 IMPROVEMENTS

Funding included in FY05 Omnibus Appropriations bill

Senator: Funding will help upgrade Route 12 safety, ease travel to and from jobs in neighboring suburbs

US Senators Charles E. Schumer today announced that Congress passed $7 million in federal funding to make improvements to Route 12. The funds are listed in the Transportation, Treasury, and Independent Agencies Appropriations section of the Fiscal Year 2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill. After passage, the bill will head to the President for his signature.

"The Southern Tier's economic future relies heavily on the capacity of its roads and mass transit system," said Schumer. "Today's money will help make important improvements in both of these areas. Route 12 has caused more than its fair share of headaches over the years, and greater access to mass transit is an important issue. We need to address these problems in a way that puts safety first, and these federal dollars will help to do just that."
